Rugged tablet PC's and industrial tablet PC's also have an IP rating (Ingress Protection) meaning they can be used in environments with dust and water.

When choosing the right rugged tablet PC the IP rating can be a useful guide to determine just how rugged your tablet PC of choice is. In a nutshell this rating standard describes a system for classifying the degrees of protection provided by the enclosures/cases of electrical equipment against dust and water. The higher the number, the more protection is offered.

Rugged Tablet PCs are available with multiple input options such as barcode reader, imager, camera and touch screen. Many combine WPAN (Bluetooth), WLAN (802.11b/g) and WWAN (GSM/GPRS) radio communication options and can include GPS.
